What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy, coming from the words “aroma” and “therapy”, is the science of using scents to heal the body. Studies have shown that the scents that we detect through our limbic system can be processed by the brain, and these scents can bring different effects on our bodies. Aromatherapy makes use of essential oils which are packed with a wide array of healing properties. These properties can be transmitted from the oil to the air through the scent that the oil disperses. It has also been proven that positive scents bring positive effects to the person who can smell it. This is one of the reasons why aromatherapy can bring calmness and relaxation to those who use it.
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are oils extracted from different plants. They are different from ordinary plant oils because, to be categorized as essential, the oil must have a unique and pleasing fragrance. All essential oils have a distinctive scent that makes them ideal to use for aromatherapy.
Are essential oils and extracts the same?
No, essential oils are different from extracts. While they may come from the same plants, there are properties that can be transferred to the essential oils which may not be present in the extracts. Likewise, there are also properties preserved in extracts but are not present in essential oils. They also have different compositions. Essential oils are oil-based, making them slightly viscous and slippery. On the other hand, extracts may come in water-like bases and the colors of the plants are usually preserved.
How are Nature’s Own Essence essential oils made?
Nature’s Own Essence essential oils are extracted through the process of “steam distillation” – the standard procedure for extracting oils from plants. This process allows the macromolecules contained within the plant to be transmitted into the oil so that the properties of the actual plant will also be preserved within the essential oil.
What are the ingredients of Nature’s Own Essence essential oils?
Nature’s Own Essence essential oils are purely made from the steam-distilled oils of the plant bases. They do not contain any additives, preservatives, artificial fragrances, artificial coloring, or any other chemical component.
Are Nature’s Own Essence essential oils diluted?
No, all essential oils produced by Nature’s Own Essence are 100% pure, undiluted, and free from any additives or chemical components.
What are the essential oils available from Nature’s Own Essence?
Currently, Nature’s Own Essence offers four different essential oils: Lavender Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, and Rosemary Essential Oil. While we do offer Moroccan Argan Oil, it is not considered an essential oil because it does not contain aromatic properties.
What are the available sizes of essential oil bottles?
At this time, we are only offering essential oils in 2-ounce bottles but will be offering 1-ounce bottles for some of our oils in the very near future.
Packaging and Storage
Why are Nature’s Own Essence essential oils bottled in dark glasses?
Dark glass bottles are used as standard packaging for essential oils because they prevent the loss of medicinal properties by keeping sunlight from altering the natural chemical composition of the oils. This prolongs the shelf life and usability of the oil.
Do Nature’s Own Essence essential oils come with a dropper?
The only product we have that has a dropper is the Moroccan Argan Oil. Our essential oils come in the European style plastic lid which has a tiny hole that only allows one drop at a time. This is proven best to use for essential oils because it controls the volume every time the essential oil is used and also keeps the contents from spilling excessively. The main reason our essential oils do not have a dropper is because the essential oil will break down the rubber on the dropper which will then contaminate the oil. Stay away from any essential oils with rubber droppers.
How do I store Nature’s Own Essence essential oils?
The bottle cap must be tightly sealed to avoid evaporation or leakage. The dark glass bottles should be kept in a cool, dry place. Ideal storage locations include kitchen cupboards (ones farthest from the stove top), bathroom cabinets, and medicine cabinets.
Do Nature’s Own Essence essential oils have an expiration date?
No, essential oils will retain up to 90% of their fragrance and healing properties for up to five years as long as they are properly stored with their lids tight and kept in a cool, dry place.
Directions for Use
How do I use Nature’s Own Essence essential oils?
You may use Nature’s Own Essence essential oils topically like a lotion or baby oil. You may use it to massage your skin. You may also apply it on your clothing or personal paraphernalia if you would like day-long fragrance. Diffusers are the most popular mediums for performing aromatherapy using essential oils. There are different types of diffusers such as candles, electric devices, and reed sticks. You may choose whichever type of diffuser suits your preferences best.
How many drops should I use?
Since Nature’s Own Essence essential oils are pure and undiluted, one or two drops of the oil go a long way. However, the amount of oil that you will use depends on how you use it. If you are only going to rub it on your skin, one to two drops is enough. On a candle diffuser, five drops can last for several minutes to an hour. In an electric diffuser, five drops mixed with the designated amount of water will provide the desired aromatic effect.
Can I mix the essential oils?
Yes, depending on your desired effects, you may mix the essential oils. Most oils will work well together but their physical composition will not really blend. They will still remain as though separated, like how oil separates from water, but the effects will be the same for both oils. To get the desired effect, use your favored oil as the base or carrier oil and simply add a few drops of the other oils to complement.
